Doubling Down in Blackjack

When you play online blackjack you will want to double down whenever the odds are in your favor. Remember, you double down because the situation favors you to win the hand and you want to get more money riding on that favorable outcome. What are the best situations for you to double down in?

Doubling Down When Holding 11
Whenever your first two cards total 11 you want to double down against the dealer’s up card unless he holds an ace.

Doubling Down When Holding 10
This hand is almost as good as when you have 11 but not quite. You double down against the dealer’s up cards except when he has a 10, face card or an ace.

Doubling Down When Holding 9
You double down when the dealer’s up card is three through six.

Doubling Down When Holding 8
Double down when the dealer’s up card is a five or a six.

Soft Aces
You should double down on A2 and A3 when the dealer holds a five or a six. You should double down on A4 and A5 when the dealer’s up card is 4, 5 or 6. Double down on A6 and A7 when the dealer’s up card is 3, 4, 5 or 6.

Once again, the goal when doubling down in blackjack is to increase your advantage when the dealer is weak so keep that in mind the next time you are playing online blackjack.
